What is Women Build?" We are pleased to announce that our Fairbanks Habitat affiliate is planning a Women Build Home in 2007! Lowe’s is the underwriter of the Habitat for Humanity International Women Build program. In 2006 and 2007, Lowe’s committed to co-sponsor 50 homes, one in each state for the "First Families Building Homes Across America" Women Build, which will challenge women governors, state first ladies and women leaders from all levels of governement to make a hgighly visible commitment to the eradication of poverty housing in their home communities. Our community is honored to represent Alaska. The Lowes sponsorship of $35,000 will cover almost half the cost of our Fairbanks Women Build Home! The Alaska 2007 Women Build home will be built here in Fairbanks on 25th Avenue and Mercier Streets and you can be a part of this Historic Event. This basic construction house with about 1,100 sq. ft. of living space will be an affordable home for Mary Ann Johnson and her two little girls. The Women Build is not about excluding men; it is about including women. Habitat for Humanity’s Women Build program enables women to discover for themselves that they can build Habitat homes. Volunteer Needs: The Women Build will need 15 women per work day and 2-3 crew leaders. Groups will be scheduled at the Habitat office. The following schedule is provided to help you determine which days may fit your availability and interests.
Ground Breaking: Sunday, May 13, 2007 at 3:00pm
All women are invited to join the Women Build Circle of 300! Each participant in the Circle donates at least $100 to the Circle of 300 Campaign. Circle of 300 donor names will be recognized on a keepsake quilt to be presented to the Johnson family. In addition:
$100 Donors will receive a beautiful solid pewter bar pin that includes a hammer, saw and spade hanging from a “tool bar” engraved with the words “Women Build”.
