Greater Fairbanks Area Habitat for Humanity

We are looking for active members and Committee Chairs who are willing to commit a few hours a month to Fairbanks Habitat for Humanity.  Our Committees are:

1.    Women Build Committee
2.    Apostle Build Committee
3.    Resource Development Committee
4.    Public Relations Committee
5.    Church Relations Committee
6.    Site Selection Committee
7.    Nominating Committee
8.    Family Partnership Committee
9.    Restore Committee
10.  Family Selection Committee

The Building Team works to coordinate labor, plans, materials etc. and are willing to participate in one of the following task oriented activities:
1)  Construction Manager who oversees all phases of the construction process.
2)  Building Team chairman solicits people with the skills needed to build the team.
3)  Site Supervisors, Crew Leaders provide supervision of volunteers working on site.  
4)  Crew Leader Training Coordinator provide crew leader/site supervisor training on topics such as volunteer management, reading prints, building guidelines, safety, etc.
5)  In-kind Donations Coordinator solicits in-kind donations; keeps records of contacts made and what was pledged.
6)  Materials Expeditor picks up and properly stores donated or purchased materials
7)  Crew Leader Scheduler schedules crew leaders according to group size needs
8)  Site Host greets volunteers, hands out t-shirts, makes coffee, handles sign-in log, etc.
 
To cultivate Greater Fairbanks Area Habitat for Humanity's relationship with local churches.  Team members agree to focus on a specific task to achieve the team goal. Tasks are:
1.  Church Coordinators:  Responsible over five churches in a coordinated effort to educate the church about Habitat, recruit and train a church liaison, and to work to keep the liaisons informed about current habitat needs.
2.  Hospitality Coordinators: Responsible to make sure the needs of out-of-town team members are met (housing, transportation, meals, etc.)
3.  Liaisons: (don’t necessarily have to attend meetings). Responsibilities include speaking at their churches on behalf of Habitat, coordinating meals and things for out of town teams their church is hosting, coordinating work teams from their church, etc.
 
The committee organizes and carries out orientation, application, interview, and selection processes. They find the families who fit the criteria of need for shelter, ability to make no-interest loan payments, and ability to partner with Habitat for Humanity.
 
Works with families through sweat equity, home ownership education, home purchase process, adjustment to new responsibilities and continued partnership with the organization. The committee is responsible for recruiting and training family sponsors and maintenance advisors to work with the families.
 
Provide oversight over the remodel project as well as the volunteer and other needs of the Habitat Restore - a new and used building material, furniture and appliance store.
 
To raise sufficient money as determined by the Board of Directors to fund the needs of the organization in order that simple, decent housing can be built with Partner Families.  Team members will be willing to participate in one of the following task orientated activities of the Resource Development Team:  
a.  Donor Recognition Coordination
b.  House Sponsorship Coordination
c.  Fundraising Event Coordination
 
This group staffs the office, which provides coordination and support for the organization.
 
To continually improve the community's awareness of our work through use of the local media, booths, events and presentations.  Team members are willing to willing to participate in one of the following task orientated activities of the Public Relations Team:  
a.  Media Coordinators (arrange publicity for events, write press releases, PSAs, etc.)
b.  Presentation Coordinators (arrange speaking engagements and speakers)
c.  Booth Coordinators (Set up and help man information booths)
d.  Other coordination as needed (Golden Days Parade, Tanana Valley Fair, etc.)
 
Identify potential sites, evaluate sites' availability, cost and appropriateness, evaluate sites suitability for affiliate's basic house plans, develop a site acquisitions criteria policy for board approval, implement the board-approved site acquisition policy and work to acquire the sites.
 
The Volunteer Coordination Team works to develop volunteers by matching their interests to the needs of the affiliate. Team members are willing to participate in one of the following task oriented activities:
1.  Recruitment – Conduct public orientations.
2.  Materials – Update materials for volunteer orientations.
3.  Follow Up Calls –  Follow-up with  volunteers through the telephone to explain volunteer opportunities.
4.  Database – Enter volunteer information into database and email lists.
5.  Recognition – Develop and implement ways to thank and recognize volunteers.
 
Plan and Coordinate the 2007 Lowes Womens' Build House. This team will work with the Building Team to ensure the success of this project. Team members participate in one of the following task oriented activities of the WB Team:
1) Media - via TV, radio and newspaper
2) Public Speaking/ fundraising - via promoting the project to local women's groups and asking women to donate to the Circle of 300.
3)  Food Services - make sure the Saturday volunteers have lunches and snacks
4)  House Leader - provides overall construction management.
5)  Crew Leaders - are skilled in one or more phases of construction and are willing to lead a crew of 5 - 7 other women.
6)  Volunteer Coordination - recruits and schedules the crew leaders, schedules women to go to the clinics and forms them into Saturday work groups.  Schedules local womens groups wanting to do a work day.
 
The Nominating team develops the Board of Directors of Habitat for Humanity by:
1.  Identify groups/skill areas currently underrepresented on the board.
2.  Secure nominations of potential members.
3.  Sends nomination packet to nominees.
4. Follows up with phone calls to answer questions, invite to board meeting, etc.
